Endovenous laser ablation is used to correct and eliminate varicose veins from the body. During treatment, a needle is inserted into the target vein using ultrasound guidance. A thin laser fiber is then fed through this needle and into the vein. Once it is snugly in the vein, it is used to apply laser energy directly to the vein. This eventually causes the vein to collapse in on itself, effectively destroying it. Over time, this collapsed vein is eventually eliminated through the body’s natural process.

While there are a number of effective treatments available to address varicose veins at Advanced Vein Center, endovenous laser ablation offers patients a wide variety of unique benefits. This treatment is particularly well-suited to patients interested in removing stubborn, large spider or varicose veins without having to undergo a more extensive, invasive procedure. Often, these veins are not able to be adequately addressed with sclerotherapy treatments.

Clinically Proven Relief from Varicose Veins

Countless research studies have proven that endovenous laser ablation is one of the safest and most effective ways to permanently eliminate both varicose and spider veins. A study published in the JAMA Dermatology journal in 2012 revealed that endovenous laser ablation produced vein removal results that were comparable to those achieved during a traditional, surgical vein stripping procedure. In fact, the rate of recurrence of a treated vein was actually lower after endovenous laser ablation.

Quick and Easy Treatment

Each endovenous laser ablation treatment typically takes no longer than one hour to complete. This procedure is so simple and minimally-invasive that patients do not need to be administered any kind of anesthesia before treatment.

No Downtime

Patients can return back to their daily activities on the same day or the day after receiving an endovenous laser ablation treatment. While patients must make sure to walk around periodically to promote healthy blood flow to their legs following treatment, most experience little to no post-procedure pain or discomfort.
