What is restless leg syndrome?
Restless leg syndrome, also known as RLS, is a condition where your legs are uncomfortable, especially when sitting or lying down. It affects both men and women and can occur at any age.
Many people who suffer from restless leg syndrome find it difficult to describe their symptoms. They do consistently describe having the constant desire to move their legs. Some common symptoms include:
- “Creepy-crawly” feeling in your legs that makes you want to move them around
- Aching, tingling or burning sensations in the legs
- Leg twitching when trying to sleep
Restless leg syndrome symptoms can have a very real impact on a person’s quality of life; it hinders sleep, causing secondary health issues and stress. Traveling for long periods and sleeping can also be difficult and uncomfortable for those suffering with RLS due to the constant need to move around.
RLS and Venous Disease
There is evidence of a link between venous disease and restless leg syndrome. About 80% of those with RLS symptoms suffer from venous disease, and often deal with similar symptoms.
Remember – you can still have venous disease without visible vein conditions such as varicose veins, spider veins and leg pain/swelling.
Fortunately, there are treatment options available. At Advanced Vein Center we offer the latest, non-surgical vein treatments with little to no downtime. Call us today (207) 772-1820 to schedule your consultation and ultrasound to examine your venous system!
