With the summer months approaching, the intense heat can intensify problems for those suffering with vein issues and conditions. Vein conditions, such as varicose and spider veins, can be caused by sun exposure, hormonal changes, certain types of medications and more.

Below are a few tips from us at Advanced Vein Center to keep your legs happy and have healthy veins this summer:

Tip #1: Exercise for healthy veins
Regular exercise encourages better circulation in the legs, which allows blood that has collected in the veins to move around. If you are standing & or sitting for long periods of time throughout the day, make sure to move around and take frequent breaks with short walks.

Tip #2: Maintain a healthy diet
Surprisingly, eating healthy is not only good for your physical health but it
can also help with improving vein health! Reach for foods like lemons, limes,
grapefruits, green peppers and asparagus that are rich bioflavonoids.

Tip #3: Elevation
If you feel like your legs are giving you trouble, take your free time to elevate them. Place your legs above your heart for 10-15 minutes a couple of times each day. This will reduce pressure and help with swelling and improve vein health.

Tip #4: Don’t forget your sunscreen!
Applying (and reapplying!) sun screen is not only important for your skin health, but your vein health as well. Exposing your legs to the ultraviolet rays can weaken the skin’s upper layers. This can cause the skin to lose moisture, elasticity and cause the veins below the skin to not move properly.

Tip #5: Hydration

Drinking lots of water throughout the day will help boost circulation in your veins and also keep your body cool.
